Water As A Source Of Energy And Of Contaminants

One of the most publicized findings of the Mars Rover expedition was evidence that water once existed on Mars. Water is present on other planetary objects including comets. Why the intense interest in water?

Water is extremely important for sustaining life and scientists are continually being amazed by the complexities of water interactions with living organisms. Water is more than a random collection of discrete molecules comprising two hydrogen atoms linked to an oxygen atom. Rather the molecules are interconnected into varying sized fabrics or clusters. The individual molecules and the overall clusters are not static but are continually vibrating in ways that are still not well understood. The concept has emerged of living water. But do we obtain living water from our household spigots? The answer is probably no. As someone once commented: “Our drinking water is so unappetizing that even bacteria won’t live in it.”

Historically, waterborne bacterial diseases such as cholera have had devastating consequences on the public’s health. Bacteria can be removed by filtration and the addition of bacteria killing agents such as chlorine. The chlorine industry has resisted open debate on whether there might be safer alternatives, such as silver ions, but no one can seriously question the need to have essentially bacteria-free water supply. Effective removal of larger parasites such as Giardia and Cryptospordia, and of viruses, such as hepatitis A, can still occasionally present problems with municipal water supplies, and, of course, waterborne infectious diseases remain a major problem in developing countries.

The growing concern for developed countries is chemical pollution of water from synthetic agrochemicals and from industrial and pharmaceutical wastes. The growing list of chemicals with an allowable level of contamination in drinking water reflects a failure of environmental control. These chemicals include various inorganic substances such as arsenic, cadmium, chromium, cyanide, mercury and thallium. Of more concern are less well studied toxic organic molecules such as acrylamide, benzene and its various derivatives, polychlorinated biphenyls, tolulene, vinyl chlorides, xylenes and many others. Indeed, one wonders how many uncharacterized products are probably contaminating today’s water supply.

Part of the debate about water safety is that no actual data exist for disease causation by individual compounds at very low levels. Few studies, however, have addressed the possible additive effects of multiple toxins even if individually they are below their own acceptable threshold level. It is certainly reasonable to argue that each toxic contaminant can put an added burden on the body’s energy resources. They may well be inhibitory to both the conventional and alternative cellular energy pathways. Furthermore, energy is probably needed to inactivate and/or remove these toxins from the body. Energy is presumably also required to restore the lifeless water normally being ingested to more of a natural living state.

The obvious question is whether one might benefit from consuming non-contaminated living water. Various products are being marketed with this implied claim. While controlled clinical trials will be needed to provide definitive proof of benefit, some preliminary findings are encouraging. Individuals not uncommonly undergo an apparent detoxification process early in the course of taking some of these marketed products. A recent example was that of a physician who was born in Greece but had come to the United States when he was eleven years old. Soon after starting an energy based protocol, he sensed a strong body odor. Upon a little reflection, he recognized it as DDT. As a youth, his family vineyard was regularly sprayed with DDT. Apparently, it had persisted in his body for over 50 years.

The research questions facing this field include gaining an understanding of how water can capture and transport energy. Is the cluster concept correct? The term maximum entropy is used to indicate complete randomness, as opposed to a more structured composition of substances. The presumption is that the more entropy that is present, the less capacity exists for water to do biological work. Certain compounds added to water can greatly enhance the performance of enzymatic reactions. This effect can be attributed to creation of available energy at the interface of the water and enzyme reaction. Water can also be energized using sound and/or electromagnetic frequencies; passing through a vortex or spiraling machine; adding electrons, either alone or as hydrogen atoms (hydrogen-rich water); or simply by being placed in sunlight. Unfortunately many of the proponents of healthy water have chosen not to openly provide complete details of methods used. In reality, there is still a lot to be learned about water and its health promoting capacities.

To help address this issue, experiments are planned to test the functional properties of medical waters, including highly diluted preparations of certain medications. The end-points include the rate and output of enzymatic reactions; speed and flourishing of seed germination; longevity and vitality of cultured cells, and finally whole animal and eventual human clinical studies. These experiments are to be conducted with the Progressive University. Suppliers of various products will be offered the opportunity to participate in these studies.
