Boost Your Energy Naturally Without Stimulants

When you woke up this morning, did you bound out of bed feeling like the Energizer Bunny? Or did you groan and hit the snooze button with one hand and pull the pillow over your head with the other? Learn how to boost your energy naturally without drugs that leave you feeling jittery.

If you’re like the majority of people today, you just don’t seem to have the energy you need to get through the day. You may be tempted to take one of the many stimulants you can buy over the counter or through the mail. But before you resort to putting unhealthy chemicals in your body, here are a few suggestions to unlock your body’s energy the natural way.

*Eat Protein*

Your diet has a big impact on how you feel. Some of you may disagree with this one (read vegetarians), but one of the best ways to give your energy a boost is to eat protein at every meal. This will help keep your blood sugar levels on an even keel. The best protein sources are fish, organic meat, chicken, and eggs, yogurt, and soy or whey protein powder. And nuts and beans are another good source.

A breakfast smoothie with a good quality protein powder will jump start your energy level for the day and they are quick and easy to make. You can throw in the fresh fruit of your choice and get a serving of fruit for the day. I use Herbalife’s Shapeworks Nutritional Shake Mix. You can order it at www.kitkat.herbalcoach.com.

*Exercise*

You have to be on some sort of exercise program to have a high energy level. If you aren’t exercising now, don’t jump in and start a strenuous program thinking your energy level will soar just like that. A strenuous program right off the bat will leave you feeling drained and with no energy at all. Why do you think so many people quit their exercise program or gym so soon after they start? They burn out because they start out working too hard and too long.

One way to begin an exercise program is by walking everyday for 20 or 30 minutes. Or buy one of the hundreds of DVDs available or tape one of the workout programs on TV that looks interesting to you. Yoga and QiGong are excellent because they are so easy on the joints and are easily modified to a beginner’s level. It doesn’t matter. Just start exercising. If you’re worried about a health problem, check with your Medical Doctor before you begin your exercise program.

*Rest*

You have to get enough sleep to keep your energy level high. Your body rebuilds and repairs itself during sleep. If you don’t give it enough time to do the necessary work, how do you expect to feel your best the next day?

Your mind needs some down time, too. It processes a lot of information during those hours it’s “off line.” Ever wonder why you’re so cranky and ill-tempered after a sleepless night? All of yesterday’s garbage is piling up in the back of your mind, waiting to be sifted through and either filed or deleted by the world’s greatest computer, your brain.

It’s energy-draining to shuffle all of “Yesterday’s Garbage” while adding today’s more pressing details when you’re stressed out from lack of sleep.

Eating enough protein, getting enough exercise, and getting enough sleep are just a few of the ways to boost your energy levels naturally. And if you’ll notice, none of them involve prescription medication or over the counter stimulants. Do yourself a favor and try them before you pop a pill to boost your energy the artificial way.
